Why Meditate


In our daily lives, moment to moment, we either feel happy or unhappy. We are aware of these two extremes but take no effort to understand the reality of these two extremes. When we think about happiness the way that feeling or emotion is expressed, varies with individuals, occasions, importance and proceeds etc.

One can be very happy for being wealthy, having beautiful houses, brand new cars and lots of other material things and a good family etc. While the others can think ‘‘I am very happy about my health and do not need any help from others for getting things done. Feeling of happiness can also come from a thought of physical appearance. So, anyone can be happy with materials, properties, families, children, friends, social status, good health and even appearance. If a person gathers more and more things to his or her life as he or she becomes very happy. But, certainly there are moments in a person’s life he or she feel sad and unhappy too. Under such situations, a person may suffer and compel to act in various ways to get over the sadness as soon as possible. Unhappiness is a feeling of grief, worry, despair, misery, hopelessness, anger, suspicion or any unpleasant thought. Under such situations one may try to share it with others, harm oneself, harm others or depressed.

Why a person be unhappy? Imagine, suddenly someone lost his or her property by a fire, somebody robed his or her property, how does he or she feel about it. House is the same object that gives happiness and unhappiness to anyone at two situations. Similarly, loss of a person’s loved ones, his or her appearance can create the same situation. There are so many examples we can get from our own experiences. A young person may feel happy of the appearance but as grow old he/she may notice changes in appearance! Will the person ready to accept those or try to act against those?. Further, unhappiness arises from separation of loved ones, leaving a person’s husband or wife for some reason, death of a person’s wife or husband, parents, close relatives and even own children. The pain or feeling of sadness comes to a person instantly. If one is bed ridden? How much hard to tolerate the pain of the body? It is even difficult to depend on someone to get your work done because nobody can do what you want? Then you get desperate and will suffer a lot mentally and physically.

Many quarries may come to persons mind but he or she may realize it is not the time to find answers. All alone, a person may think, why this happened to him or her? A person may regret about many things he or she has done in the past. Is it a time to go back and get them corrected? Certainly not! A person may suffer a lot and it will be a real agony because he or she may not see a way out Many quarries may splash in a person’s mind in every moment. Then he or she may feel sad about himself or herself.

It is inevitable for one not to enjoy life, parties, trips, movies as there are so many varieties of entertainments readily available in the society.

While person do have fun if you have given a thought to understand this happiness is not last long. There are instances that you may have missed a good opportunities and made you very unhappy. It is very well understood that something is lacking in us as there are two extreme nature of behaviors which change from time to time, individual to individuals but cannot find an end. You can enjoy your life while having all physical or mental assets but knowing that at any moment something can happen to those. That is why we should train our minds to acquire a balance in life between happiness and unhappiness. There the meditation is needed to train the mind.
